In this month’s blog, we share some of the quality assurance technologies we use in our facilities to ensure our customers are always thrilled with the results.

Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)

As automotive consumer expectations rise, so too does the need for tighter tolerances in vehicle components. We help ensure tolerances are as tight as possible by using advanced techniques in metrology, the science of measurement.

Supporting these efforts are our three coordinate measuring machines (CMM). We have one at each of our production facilities to ensure that nothing goes out the door before it passes this critical inspection. 

This technology uses a precise probe that moves along a part to capture its X-, Y-, and Z-axis surface coordinates and then compares them against the specified tolerances in the design drawings. The machine will then return a Pass/Fail status in tabular or graphical form based on the part’s noted tolerance limits. CMMs also generate detailed inspection reports to help engineers enhance quality control.

In-Process Metrology Techniques

Traditionally, quality control processes were conducted at the end of the manufacturing process. While end-of-line verification remains critical, modern manufacturing expectations require that it be supported by in-process quality-control technology implemented during fabrication.

For example, our CNC machining centres incorporate scanning and probing systems that perform dimensional checks and tolerance verifications, down to the micron level, immediately after machining operations. These readings are then automatically compared to the original drawings, allowing tools to be adjusted on the spot when deviations are detected. We also utilize other dimensional inspection tools, such as callipers and micrometres, to verify that the final product matches the CAD model.

Our in-process quality control approach ensures that the entire production batch fully conforms to the original drawings, eliminating the need to rework large volumes of products and minimizing material waste, optimizing manufacturing costs.

Quality Data Packages For ITAR Defence Applications  

Products intended for defence applications require Quality Data Packages (QDPs) under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance program, which we participate in. 

These QDPs document every inspection, certification, and process step that supports ITAR’s traceability, transparency, and compliance requirements, providing a clear paper trail that goes all the way back to when and where the raw material was sourced. It also includes information such as CAD files, inspection reports, and manufacturing procedures that detail every aspect of the build process.

Our ITAR certification is complemented by other certifications, such as IATF 16949, demonstrating our commitment to precision, quality, and process control across all our products.

Digital Quality Systems That Connect Our Quality Assurance Technology

Quality assurance for different aspects of the fabrication process has been traditionally stored in separate systems or recorded manually, limiting visibility and creating extra effort for engineers to coordinate data and implement improvements.
